Meet Aarhus – The City of Smiles

Aarhus, located on the eastern coast of the Jutland peninsula, is Denmark's second-largest city, boasting a population of approximately 340,000 inhabitants.

Aarhus is a university town, with the youngest urban population in Denmark, but it is also one of the oldest cities in the nation, founded in the Viking age.

Known for its vibrant mix of youthful energy and rich history, Aarhus is a prominent destination for international meetings and conferences. The city ranks among the top 75 destinations worldwide on the ICCA ranking for international meeting destinations, thanks to its growing popularity as a host for scientific congresses and conferences.

Downtown Aarhus - Easy-Going Style and Liveability

Downtown Aarhus offers a wealth of attractions, all within easy walking distance.

One of the most popular areas is "Vadestedet," where you can enjoy cafés, restaurants, and shops along the Aarhus River – a perfect spot for dining and people-watching.

The Latin Quarter, the oldest part of the historic downtown, features quirky shops, inventive restaurants, and charming cobblestone streets. This area is a haven for fashion, crafts, food, and unique Danish designs that you won't find on the high street.

Recently, the Aarhus Ø district on the harbour waterfront has emerged as an exciting and rapidly expanding part of the city.

An Active City by the Sea

Aarhus is a waterfront city surrounded by ancient beech forests, all within walking distance of the city centre.

The city is dotted with parks and green oases, such as the Botanical Garden's greenhouses, Marselisborg Memorial Park, the University Park, and Town Hall Park. These serene spots are ideal for relaxation and mingling with the locals. Marselisborg Palace, located in one of these green oases, serves as the summer residence of the Danish royal family.

The city also offers easy access to bike paths, running paths, outdoor gyms, and water sports.

In the summer, you can swim in the clean waters of the bay at the Harbour Bath, Ballehage, Den Permanente, and the marinas, or the swimming lane in the sea north of Aarhus Ø.

Aarhus - A Michelin City

Aarhus is paradise for foodies. With three Michelin restaurants, Aarhus is a world-class gastronomic destination.
The Michelin Guide also recognizes Aarhus for its exceptional attractions, churches, and hotels, awarding the city multiple stars in these categories.
Highlights include the Old Town, Denmark's most beautiful open-air historical museum with three stars, and the ARoS Art Museum and Moesgaard Museum, each with two stars.
