Biography

Kate Broun is Head of Screening, Early Detection, and Immunisation at Cancer Council Victoria, with over 25 years of experience advancing cancer screening and prevention through evidence-based approaches. She has led major programs, including PapScreen Victoria (2002–2010) and Australia’s first national bowel screening communications campaign (2019). An expert advisor to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program communications campaign (2022–2023), Kate has contributed extensively to public health research. Her recent publications in the Health Promotion Journal of Australia (2023), BMJ (2023), and Preventive Medicine (2024) highlight her impact on improving cancer outcomes and promoting equity in screening access.

Survey-based recommendations for the communication strategy to increase lung cancer screening uptake in the Czech Republic

Biography

Renata Chloupková is a senior data analyst at the National Screening Centre in the Czech Republic, where she co-leads the data team responsible for analysis and management of data from national screening programmes. She also collaborates with the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses (Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic), on teaching and research projects. Her work focuses on both oncological and non-oncological screening topics, including data audits, validation, and evaluation of quality indicators. She is particularly interested in international perspectives on the evaluation of screening programmes, including barriers to participation and innovative approaches.

Katharine A. Rendle, PhD, MSW, MPH, is Director at the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) and Associate Professor with tenure at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Rendle’s research program broadly aims to improve the quality, value, and delivery of care across the cancer continuum by integrating theoretical and methodological insights from anthropology, clinical and social epidemiology, implementation science, and data science.

Biography

Dr. Farida Selmouni is a public health specialist with a PhD from Complutense University of Madrid, specializing in cancer screening and early detection programs. Her work focuses on developing and evaluating integrated multi-cancer screening initiatives, with particular emphasis on improving access and reducing inequalities across different socioeconomic contexts. She coordinates multiple projects aimed at enhancing screening implementation and accessibility, particularly among vulnerable populations. Her research extends to evaluating innovative screening and triage methods for cervical cancer, with special attention to women living with HIV.

I am a PhD-student conducting research on informed decision-making in cancer screening. My work is focuses on defining and measuring knowledge about cancer screening, as well as developing and validating instruments for the measurment of knowledge about cancer screening.

The development and validation of a new scale for measuring informed decision making in cancer screening: the Amsterdam IDM scale

Biography

Danielle Timmermans is professor of Public Health Risk Communication and head of the research group RISC Amsterdam, which is in the Netherlands the leading research group on perception and communication of health risks. Research focuses on how to inform and communicate with the public about health and safety risk in order to foster informed and deliberate decision making about e.g. prenatal screening, cancer screening, vaccination, and environmental risks. Research is done in collaboration with societal and professional parties, such as the National Institute of Public Health. She advises for several health programs and to several ministries in the Netherlands.

Expanding eligibility, enhancing opportunities: Understanding Bowel Cancer Screening profiles and information needs to support younger people aged 45-49 years to screen in Australia

Biography

Kerryann Wyatt is an experienced researcher specialising in designing, evaluating, analysing and reporting health campaigns, programs and research. At the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer, she leads behavioural research to inform state and national screening and early detection campaigns, including identifying underscreened groups, understanding audience profiles, barriers, facilitators and information needs, testing key messages and evaluating campaign and program impact. She works closely with program staff to shape and assess strategies to increase cancer screening participation rates in Victoria and nationally. Her contributions are essential to developing evidence-based strategies to improve public health outcomes and early detection of cancer.
