Biography
Kate Broun is Head of Screening, Early Detection, and Immunisation at Cancer Council Victoria, with over 25 years of experience advancing cancer screening and prevention through evidence-based approaches. She has led major programs, including PapScreen Victoria (2002–2010) and Australia’s first national bowel screening communications campaign (2019). An expert advisor to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program communications campaign (2022–2023), Kate has contributed extensively to public health research. Her recent publications in the Health Promotion Journal of Australia (2023), BMJ (2023), and Preventive Medicine (2024) highlight her impact on improving cancer outcomes and promoting equity in screening access.

Biography
Koen de Nijs is a PhD candidate at the department of Public Health at the Erasmus University Medical Center. His research focuses on the mathematical modelling of the benefits and harms of lung cancer screening. He holds Masters degrees in Health Economics and Econometrics, and is a member of the Lung Cancer Working Group of the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modelling Network.

Biography
I am Louis Gros, a Swiss medical oncologist specializing in early-stage lung cancer screening and treatment. I completed a two-year fellowship with Professor Claudia Henschke’s lung cancer screening team at Mount Sinai, New York, while maintaining ties with the CHUV (Lausanne). Now back in Switzerland, I collaborate with Professor Solange Peters, Head of Thoracic Malignancies and former ESMO President. As a clinician, I care for patients daily and actively contribute to lung cancer research. My work focuses on bridging clinical care and public health innovation, including Lausanne’s pilot screening project to address the urgent need for early lung cancer detection.

049 - Attitudes towards lung cancer screening among current and former heavy smokers being in vulnerable positions: Awareness, barriers and motivators
Biography
With a Master of Science in Public Health, I work as a Project Officer in the Prevention and Information Department at the Danish Cancer Society. My work centers on behavior-changing communication, developing targeted initiatives to increase screening participation and improve timely detection among individuals with low engagement. I specialize in qualitative research, conducting focus groups to explore barriers, perceptions, and motivations related to screening participation. Recently, I published an article on attitudes toward risk-stratified breast cancer screening in Denmark.

A registered nurse with a Master’s degree in Nursing Science, I am currently pursuing a PhD in the Humanities and Social Sciences of Medicine and Health. My professional and academic journey reflects a strong interest in public health, particularly in improving access to secondary prevention programs. My research focuses on identifying factors influencing adherence to screening interventions, with the goal of optimizing their effectiveness and acceptability among target populations.
