Speaker(s)
Dr Beatriz Carvalho
Senior Scientist
Netherlands Cancer Institute
284 - Harmonising data models of European colorectal cancer screening programmes
Biography
Beatriz Carvalho is a molecular biologist specialized in cancer biology, focusing in colorectal cancer (CRC) initiation/progression and translation of that knowledge in biomarkers for CRC early detection. Molecular profiling of tissues and functional studies using patient-derived organoids led to the identification of relevant biomarkers for early detection. Dr. Carvalho has actively been involved in the coordination of large prospective studies to clinically validate new tests for CRC screening and to explore the use of molecular stool tests in CRC surveillance. Dr. Carvalho is also investigating the potential of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) markers for multi-cancer early detection.
Dr Xiaoshuang Feng
Scientist
International Agency for Research on Cancer
313 - Does risk-based lung cancer screening eligibility prioritize people with higher competing mortality? A relative perspective
Biography
I am a scientist in cancer epidemiology at the International Agency for Research on Cancer. My focus is optimizing risk prediction models for cancer screening and early detection.
Mr Rick Groeneweg
Junior Researcher
Erasmus Medical Center
307 - Estimating the number of quality-adjusted life years gained from attending BreastScreen Norway using various assumptions about mortality reduction and overdiagnosis
Biography
Rick studied mathematics and physics at Utrecht University, worked as consultant in software engineering and data analysis for a consultancy company and wrote a master thesis in an oncology research lab in Amsterdam. In 2023 he joined the Erasmus MC department of Public Health, under the supervision of Nicolien van Ravesteyn and Harry de Koning as a researcher and modeller. He loves applying his mathematical and programming knowledge on new problems, and is always interested in making new research connections to contribute and work together with others on new projects.
Dr Ulrike Haug
Deputy Scientific Director
Leibniz Institute Bips Gmbh
373 - No “prevalence bias” in randomized controlled trials on colorectal cancer screening: the importance of clarifying the research question
Biography
Ulrike Haug, a professor at Bremen University, is deputy scientific director of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS and heads the department Clinical Epidemiology at BIPS. She has a strong research focus on cancer screening and conducted multiple types of studies on cancer screening (particularly colorectal and breast cancer). She holds the scientific responsibility for the GePaRD database covering health claims from 20% of the German population. She is a member of national and international committees in the field of cancer prevention and screening, e.g. of the National Decade Against Cancer and the World Endoscopy Organization.
